Activating Supernodes for concentrated growth
Our aim is to bridge the gap between industry and education by increasing knowledge flows within strategic growth areas.
Globalisation 4.0 is a digitally connected economy where cities across the world compete to develop, attract, and more importantly retain high-value industry.
Many cities and countries around the world are defining their strengths in the global economy.
A Supernode is a highly connected and active zone within a global network. Our aim is to grow the Christchurch economy by creating a range of globally connected, yet locally relevant Supernodes.
Growth Criteria
These key measures have been established to aid decision making.
Ultimate Opportunity
Overarching importance and relevance to the region.
Global Growth Potential
Access and linkages to international markets, talent and Venture Capital.
Current Local Capability
Active innovation ecosystem, institutions, leaders, and organisations.
Natural Local Advantage
Does Chch have a local advantage at a National level? How are we placed globally?
Regulatory Support
Are there regulatory opportunities that give us a global edge?
Pragmatic Future
Are there clear and pragmatic next steps to augment the Supernode in the medium-term?
Defining Supernodes
The Christchurch economy was measured against the six growth criteria outlined above establishing ten potential areas of current and future growth. These areas were reframed and prioritised during a consultation period and further validated and refined within industry workshops.
The engagement with Industry, Tertiary Education and Government will continue to enable and activate trans-disciplinary growth networks across our core Supernodes.
